As a writer you go through waves of ups and down and periods of stagnation. Everyone I come across, within the field, at some point discusses this topic. We chalk up excuse after excuse of why we have landed in the “seat of stuck”. To be honest with you, I hit a high roll idea that I’ve been working on and subsequently life caught up to me at the same time with work and travel. However life happens I am certainly not a ghost town!
In fact, I have been working on a kids book that pays homage to my own childhood poetry that I grew up reading. While I am not ready to completely share this publicly yet (a nip will do), it has regenerated my motivation in finding a publishing company. I’ve been researching traditional vs alternatives to publishing. The biggest take away from traditional publishing is the patience needed for someone to believe in your work as much as you do. All it takes is one single person to change the course of life and that person is you. Some people take this to such heart that they go the self-publishing route, which is completely understandable. I’ve entertained the self-publishing route many times but something within me just keeps pulling me back from pursuing it.
You have to keep putting yourself out there to be seen and heard, but you are the only person who can take those steps. I am declaring today for myself that I will find a publishing company that is just as excited about my work as I am within this coming year. The next generation of kids will say, “oh yeah, I remember this!”, like my generation did with The Berenstain Bears, Arthur, Shel Silverstein, and R.L. Stein books. Without further ado I present to you The Kees.
