Fall ushers a vestige to
                     a summer romance

Leaves descend where
                     the memories fade

Stilly conserved to reanimate
                     willing love to return

Into the winter doldrums
                      lamenting for spring

Raptured out of the tragedy
                      the birds breast sings

Spring warms the embers
                      enkindling summers embrace

There is an entire website dedicated to cliches, here. In fact, it has dawned on me that most of my personal poetry is just that, cliche. As well as most poetry I read! Let me share with you the “original” poem that inspired the re-work of this unoriginal poem above. It reads, Fall brings an end to a summer love. Leaves drop and the memories fade. Resources save to regrow a love to return. From the winter blues my heart must relearn. To spring forth into anew. I liked the idea of the poem and this was actually written in protest of a romance that, I knew from previous experiences, would be “falling back” into an acquaintanceship – oh the irony. Nevertheless, this was an opportunity to poke fun of cliche poetry, keep things light-hearted and enjoy the challenge of evolving a piece. By the way…jokes on me because that romance blossomed and you know what that means – more cliche poetry.
